About the event
Science fiction has always been “kinda queer,” stemming from its ability to imagine alternate realities, break societal constructs, and create spaces for marginalized identities to thrive and to evolve. So it’s no wonder that so many of us queerdos gravitate towards this genre in our media, where our favorite authors and characters actively explore, challenge, and reimagine bodies, genders and sexual norms.
For this show, our professors will be sharing the pivotal sci-fi ephemera that helped them escape the stinky, mundane world and enter into previously unexplored worlds that are way more engaging, thought-provoking, and welcoming to our brand of queer media junky. It’s gonna get weird, and trippy and probably a little messy, and that’s exactly what we love.
So strap on your jetpacks and get on down to the Highball to experience a night of sheer sci-fi nerdery. It’s gonna be out of this world.
And stick around…
