THE ELEPHANT'S TRUNK (WHICH IS BASICALLY THEIR NOSE) ALSO OPERATES AS AN ARM; THEY USE IT TO POUR WATER INTO THEIR MOUTHS, TO GRAB OBJECTS OR GROOM THEMSELVES. WHEN ELEPHANTS SWIM IN DEEP WATERS, THEY USE THEIR TRUNKS AS SNORKELS.
TRUNK
ELEPHANTS POSSESS THE LARGEST BRAINS OF ALL LAND ANIMALS, WEIGHING UP TO 6 KILOGRAMS. THEIR BRAIN SIZE IS NOT JUST FOR SHOW; ELEPHANTS ARE HIGHLY INTELLIGENT. MUCH OF AN ELEPHANT'S BEHAVIOR IS LEARNED RATHER THAN INSTINCTIVE.
THEY ARE HIGHLY INTELLIGENT WITH SUPERIOR LEARNING ABILITIES AND THEY HAVE AN EXCELLENT MEMORY- THEY CAN REMEMBER WATERING HOLES CREATED YEARS AGO, RECOGNIZE HUMANS THEY HAVE SEEN, AND WILL KNOW WHEN IS THE TIME FOR FRUIT HARVESTS.

about
your hosts
& our mission
Queer Media Theory 101 is a community of LGBTQIA2S+ folks who gather regularly to share their stories of how popular media helped guide them to their own greatness. It’s part storytelling, part media studies, and it’s a great way to just get together and celebrate our differences.
In 2026, we expanded its horizons in two significant ways. After 8 wonderful years, Lesley Clayton stepped down as cohost (yes, we miss her deeply) but superstar Olivia Biehle stepped into her spot and elevated the format to include new forms of media beyond film, like TV, anime, video games, comic books and more.
We thank comedian Micheal Foulk for starting the show back in 2015. Don't worry, he moved to San Francisco and launched a new iteration of the show with the Mission Theatre Alamo Drafthouse . We continue in his honor and the honor of sharing your voice and story.

Submission FAQ
Everyone who identifies as part of the queer community! We know that everyone has had unique experiences being queer and we want to hear ALL of them on our stage.
You do not need previous public speaking experience or need to compare yourself to any of the other presenters. We believe that everyone’s stories deserve to be heard, and we want to hear yours!
We would love for you to submit all of your movie ideas that match any one or more of our themes! Then we’ll contact you when one of your suggestions match up with our themes.
We will reach out to you by email approximately one month prior to each show date if we would like to include your movie selection in the mix (based on what other submissions we receive) and in order to confirm that you’re still available for that show’s date.
There is not a deadline for the year. We only ask that you submit movie ideas at least a month prior to each upcoming show so that we have time to plan ahead for the next show.
